In 2023 we entered teams in the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship at under 9s, 10s, 11s, 13s, 15s and 17s level. The SJCC issued new guidance rules regarding sportsmanship, inclusion and diversity. They introduced a new logo.

We again signed up for All Stars cricket for the 5-7 year olds.

What a season for the U10’s! Not only were they crowned champions of the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship Tier 3 Sunday South Central league – but they did it by winning every game!!

The squad of 11 regular players have all improved massively this year, the proof is in the statistics – with 5 Newdigate players in the top 10 batting figures and 4 out of the 5 top bowling!! But most importantly the kids played every game with a smile on their faces; they have all caught the cricket bug and with universal interest in winter nets looks like they will be able to hit the ground running in Tier 2 next season!!

Coaching took place on Friday evenings and Aiden Jones and the Ball twins only missed one session.

Sixteen players represented the under 15s which included six under 13s. We were very grateful for their contributions but inspite of that, in one game we could only field ten players. Getting a full team together was problematical throughout the season.

Five games were lost and only against Lingfield did we get well beaten. The other losses could be put down to bowling too many wides and no balls and sloppy fielding. The batting generally was solid. Charlie Stimpson captained the team and did a good job trying to get the balance right, by giving the young players a game and still trying to be competitive.

The side was complimented for its behaviour which is something the coaches have impressed upon the team.

There were some excellent performances. Four players scored 50s and had to retire – Dexter Duthie, Elliot Spiers, Rufus James and Sebastian Dearsley. Dexter scored 200 runs with an average of 40 and Rufus only played four matches but averaged 64. Charlie topped the bowling averages with an average of 11.22. The best bowling performances were Dexter 3/8, Charlie 2/2 and Elliot 2/8. Dexter took 10 wickets and Charlie 9 wickets. Toby Ball opened the bowling and came on at the death – he bowled a consistent line and length and took 7 wickets at a good economy rate. Rufus, Elliot, Aiden and Charlie all took 3 catches apiece. Harry Ball took the wicket keeping gloves and saved the team a lot of runs.
